|
3: Will there also be continuing education non-credit classes offered at the center? |
A: Click here for a list of non-credit health care courses offered at the center. |
4: What are the selective admissions programs and how do I apply? |
A: Respiratory Care is a selective admissions program at Frederick Community College. Students must fulfill all pre-requisite coursework at their home institution and/or Mount Airy College Center for Health Care Education as available, and apply directly to Frederick Community College by completing a college application and an allied health application when they are ready to be considered for the clinical program. All applicants must apply by the stated deadline and are considered based on the selection criteria for the program. Residents of all three counties are considered equally for the selective admissions program. Once admitted, all clinical courses are offered at the center site. |
5: What are the non-selective/regular credit program offerings? |
A: All other credit program offerings at the Mount Airy College Center are non-selective. This means, students are accepted on a first come, first served basis into the programs. |
6: What is the credit admissions process for first time students? |
A: There are three steps to the credit admissions process: - Apply to your home institution according to your county of residence (Carroll, Frederick or Howard Community College), online, in person, by mail, or via fax.
- Take the placement tests at your home institution. This will determine eligibility for all courses and prerequisites for courses. Please note that developmental coursework may be required and must be completed, in full at the home institution.
Check your institution's website for available times and/or appointments for placement tests. You may also download applications and/or apply on line at the following websites. Carroll Community College: www.carrollcc.edu Frederick Community College: www.frederick.edu Howard Community College: www.howardcc.edu
- Register for courses through your home institution's process. When ready for clinical or program courses (prerequisite requirements are complete), you may apply to the sponsoring institution directly, designating the degree program you want as one of the credit programs listed above. For example: apply directly to CCC and select Health Information Technology on the enrollment application. You then officially become a Carroll Community College student. You can register for HIT classes based on space availability (first come, first served), and pre-requisite completion. You can view CCC, HCC and FCC's prerequisite requirements for all programs, on each institution's website, in a credit schedule book, or the College catalog. Course equivalencies for your intended program will be available through your home institution's advising office and on the center website.

7: Will all classes be offered in Mount Airy? |
A: Non-selective degree programs will not be offered in full at the Mount Airy College Center for Health Care Education. For example, you can take HIT courses at the center, but there are also many general education and elective courses that are required, that will not be offered at Mount Airy. Using this example, you may be a native student of HCC or FCC. In this case, you can continue to take general education and elective requirements at FCC or HCC as you are concurrently taking HIT classes at the center. You would be a student of official record at the college that is offering your degree program; however, you can continue to take other classes at your home institution. |
8: How do I begin taking clinical classes? |
A: There are four steps to the admissions process: - Apply to the sponsoring college (CCC, FCC or HCC), online, in person, by mail, or via fax.
- Request a copy of official transcripts sent to the sponsoring college (these are free of charge if completed at CCC, FCC or HCC) or from any other institution where you may have completed credits. Official transcripts from each institution attended must be submitted.
- Register for classes directly at the sponsoring college.
- Purchase your text books and other supplemental course materials at the sponsoring college bookstore.

9: What individual science courses are offered at the center? |
A: Science course offerings include: Biology, Human Biology, Anatomy and Physiology 1, Anatomy and Physiology 2, and Microbiology. Check the center schedule for course listings. Seats in all science classes will be available on a first come, first served basis. All course prerequisites must be met according to the sponsoring institution's requirements. |
10: How do I register for science and other "non-clinical" courses? |
A: Students register for the science courses (Biology, Human Biology, Anatomy and Physiology 1, Anatomy and Physiology 2, and Microbiology) directly at their home (county of residency) institution. For example: If microbiology is being offered and taught by CCC faculty at the center, an HCC student will register for it at HCC and a Frederick student will register for it at FCC. Colleges will list the courses in their schedules with the location indicated as Mount Airy. |
11: How much will I pay? |
A: Because you are registering via your home campus, you will pay at the same rate as you would for any other course. To avoid being charged the out-of-county rate, you must register at your home school for all of the non-clinical courses. If you, as a Carroll, Howard, or Frederick County resident, decide to complete one of the programs offered at the center or via the Mid-Maryland Consortium, you will transfer to the sponsor institution and you will pay according to the sponsor institution's in-county rate. Students from other counties (Montgomery or Baltimore County, for example) pay the out-of-county rate; out of state residents pay at the out-of-state rate for the sponsor campus. For tuition rates visit https://qa.mtairycollegecenter.com/admissions/tuition-fees#overlay-context=faq. |
12: What if I change my mind or want to drop my course(s)? |
A: You will follow the registration, payment, schedule change, and drop calendar of your home school (the school where you are registered). In other words, if you register for a course at Howard, you follow Howard's rules and payment schedule without regard to which campus is sponsoring the course. |
13: Will there be advising, career services, or other assistances at the center? |
A: No professional advising or counseling staff members will be housed at the center. Faculty members will offer office hours and will be available for discipline based advising during certain times. Advising and academic planning will take place at your home campus until you enter your Mount Airy program. Advisors at your home campus have received training on the programs at their partner institutions so they will be able to assist you in preparing for your academic program enrollment through the center. Students may inquire about the Mount Airy College Center for Health Care Education program of interest by contacting the Admissions Office at the sponsor institution. Please return to your home campus for assistance. |
14: Will I be able to register for my classes online once I have entered the program at the center? |
A: For your initial registration, you may be required to meet with an advisor, but after the first semester, you should be able to register online. It is important that you submit your official transcripts from your home institution for evaluation to make online registration as seamless as possible. Speak with advisers on your home campus for assistance. |
15: If I am planning to complete a program at the center, how will I know specifically what equivalent courses to take at my home institution as prerequisites for my program of interest? |
A: Advisers on all three campuses have developed prerequisite equivalency charts for the programs offered by their home institutions. Each institution's direct equivalency will be listed if one has been determined. This information can be found on the center website along with all academic program requirements. |
16: Once I am finished with all of my program requirements, how do I apply to graduate? |
A: You will apply for graduation through the sponsor institution. Contact the sponsor institution's advising office for assistance with graduation application deadlines and policies. |
17: How do I apply for financial aid and what institution will be awarding the aid? |
A: All students are required to complete the FAFSA form (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/) to apply for state and federal financial aid. On the FAFSA, students will need to indicate the school(s) they wish to receive their information. Students should indicate their home institution (Carroll, Howard or Frederick) on the FAFSA. The home institution will be the awarding institution. For students attending a program at another institution, for instance a Carroll student attending a Howard program at the center, the institution that will be issuing the student's final degree, in this case Howard, would become the student's home and awarding institution. Eligibility for various types of financial aid (including grants, loans and scholarships), application and awarding procedures may vary by institution. For more information on the types of financial aid available, students should contact the home institution for the program in which they intend to enroll. |
18: What if I am attending courses at two or more institutions? |
A: Students can only receive financial aid from one institution; however, students who are completing coursework at two institutions towards a degree offered at the center will be awarded financial aid from their home institution for combined coursework pursued under a consortium agreement. Consortium agreements will be issued only if the courses being pursued at the "guest" institution will be transferred back towards the student's program at the home institution. |
19: What happens if I withdraw? |
A: Students will be subject to the withdraw policies, financial aid revision census dates and Return to Title IV calculations at their awarding institution for all coursework included in their financial aid award calculation. Prior to withdrawing from any coursework, students should first consult a Financial Aid Counselor to understand the impact a withdrawal may have on their aid. |
20: Is the academic calendar from the center different than my home campus calendar; and, what happens in the event of campus closings for holidays or for inclement weather? |
A: The campus calendar for the center will soon be added to this website for the fall semester. It will be similar to but is not the same as the calendars at your home campus. Therefore, please be sure to consult the calendar published in the center. Please note that if you are taking courses at your home campus and at the center, you will need to follow both calendars as they may not be the same. The center classes will follow the Carroll Community College announcements for snow and emergency closings. Be sure to sign up for test or email notifications through e2Campus (www.carrollcc.edu/alerts?navtk=icon). |
21: Is there a cafeteria or food available? |
A: While there is no cafeteria, we have a student lounge and vending machines and a microwave cart are available to students and staff. |
22: Where should I park? |
A: There is parking adjacent to the building and also across the street in the lots for the County recreation fields. As a courtesy to our neighbors please avoid parking in the residential spaces reserved for the town homes. |
